Physical Education Program
Pre-K/K: Our objective is to educate the children about the benefits of having a physically active lifestyle. Within the class the students engage in activities that foster motor skill development through games, sports, and skill-based activities. Within this course, students will be taught safe-play, spatial-awareness, and will develop competency of movement. We strive to create a safe learning environment for each student that is active and fun!
Elementary: At the elementary level, grades 1 – 4, it is essential that our curriculum promotes physical fitness as a form of fun to help cultivate a healthy lifestyle. The students will learn body management and movement skills that they will utilize within games, sports, and skill-based activities. Cheverus students will master the concepts of teamwork, communication, and good sportsmanship. These will be enhanced by emphasizing the application in an active environment. Our goal is to equip students with the knowledge they need to create a mentally/physically healthy lifestyle inside and outside the classroom.
Middle School: Our physical education program for grades 5 - 8 encourages activities that motivate our students of all skill levels to participate. The students will learn to utilize the concepts of communication, develop listening skills, and cultivate leadership qualities important to being a positive team member. Cheverus students are required to collaborate with classmates during activities in order to nurture these skills. interpersonal collaboration in this setting will help them learn to be a part of a group and will aid in the development of social skills. Each class consists of instruction, implementation, and vigorous movement activities that will help improve each student’s overall mental and physical health.
